Gardai urge "extreme caution" 06.12.10

GARDAI are advising the public to continue to exercise "extreme caution" as the hazardous weather continues.
Although some of the snow may be thawing in places, ice and black ice can still be present and a danger to motorists. Gardai have advised the following:
*Public transport should be used where possible.
*Motorists are asked not to make unnecessary journeys.
*Drivers should be conscious of the safety of pedestrians.
Meanwhile, pedestrians should avoid walking on the road and wear hi-vis jackets while people should avoid standing outside buildings as snow falling from roofs can cause injury.
The sun sets on a chilly upper road, Greencastle.
Current indications are that temperatures are to remain very low and drop further later on and this may create further difficult driving conditions. We are asking road users to be conscious of this when making journeys.
"We would ask people to keep in contact with neighbours, particularly those living alone, to call around and check on them and to not assume that someone else will do so," Gardai said in a statement.
