Seamus Mallon to open RNLI art exhibition 19.10.07

FORMER Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland Seamus Mallon will be in Buncrana next week to open an art exhibition in aid of Lough Swilly RNLI lifeboats.
Seamus Mallon. More than 200 paintings by 80 artists will feature in the show which opens in the Plaza at 7pm on Friday, October 26 and runs until Monday, October 29.
The artists will donate 25% of the price of each painting to the RNLI to continue their life-saving work at sea.
The featured artists include many well-known names but there will also be a number of works from new and emerging talents from home and abroad with Donegal, Derry, Dublin, London and many parts of Britain and Ireland represented.
Lough Swilly RNLI deputy launching authority, John McCarter, said the organisation was delighted to bring the art show - held previously in Greencastle's Maritime Museum - back to the RNLI's Buncrana base.
“Yet again, a talented and unique group of artists have agreed to exhibit and sell their work with a generous donation to the RNLI," said Mr. McCarter.
"As a charity that relies on public donations to continue saving lives at sea, these events mean a great deal to the volunteers who crew the lifeboats and help to create an awareness of the work of the RNLI in Donegal and the North West."
Lough Swilly RNLI has been in operation for 20 years, saving countless lives in that time. There are
two lifeboats stationed at Ned’s Point - the brand new Atlantic 85 'Ernest George' - the first of its kind in the Republic of Ireland and the all-weather Tyne Class lifeboat 'Mariners' Friend'.
The lifeboats are crewed by volunteers who are trained to the highest standards by the charity and provided with the best equipment. These volunteers give their time freely and never know what they will face when they launch on a rescue mission.
