Posters used in bid to net Buncrana attacker 11.07.07

GARDAI in Buncrana are using CCTV footage of an attack victim in the hope of jogging eyewitnesses' memories. Posters featuring 17 year old Francis McLaughlin as he walked on the main street prior to his assault have been put up in shop windows around the town. The teenager was punched in the face by a mindless thug in an unprovoked attack that left his jaw broken in two places.
The posters, showing the young man wearing blue jeans and a black and red jumper, is an unusual departure for Gardai in their bid to gather evidence in the case. While they are following a definite line of enquiry, they still want to piece together the events leading up to and after the assault.
The assault happened outside Hutton's Bar on Sunday, June 17th, around 7.40pm.
Garda Sgt. John O'Keeffe said the incident was a "totally unprovoked attack on an innocent young fella".
He said a number of people had come forward
Gardai have put up posters around Buncrana.
with information, however, he appealed for more eye-witness accounts.
"We are following a certain line of enquiry but we would appeal for more information from anyone who saw this taking place."
