Alan speaks to the media 19.07.07

Seventeen-year old Alan Doherty gave his first interview yesterday since undergoing the first phase of surgery to reconstruct his lower jaw.
At a press conference in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny, he told well wishers, fundraisers and the media he was grateful for all their assistance.
Alan Doherty Speaking through his electronic voice simulator, he outlined how the groundbreaking first round of surgery went at the acclaimed Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
"It was an eight hours op' and six days in hospital. Docs and nurses were amazed at my recovery. Thanks to everyone for helping," he said.
Alan's father is from Clonmany, although the family now live in Letterkenny.
His aunt Grace McColgan told InishowenNews.com the told cost of the surgery
is likely to be in the region of between €350,000 and €400,000. More than €100,000 has been raised so far through a number of back-to-back fundraisers and benefits with a similar amount needed before the second phase of surgery begins in New York in October or November.
