€75K to fix rain-battered roads  24.09.08

AROUND €75,000 has been allocated to upgrade a number of roads in Gleneely including sections washed away in the summer's heavy rainfall.
Inishowen Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the funding that has been allocated under the Clár programme.
Three roads around Gleneely village and environs will receive upgrade funding of €19,514, €19,000 and €38,514 respectively from the Departments of Rural Affairs and Transport.
Gleneely Village “The fruits of the Clár monies are very tangible and real. In this latest funding announcement we see Gleneely gain in a top-up of the money being allocated to them," said Senator Keaveney.
"I know that the areas that receive Clár funds for water, roads, sports and so forth are delighted with their extra top-ups and I also realise other areas would like to be included in what has
been a very clever and practical support for our rural communities."
Donegal County Councillor Marian McDonald also welcomed the allocation. “Following the heavy rain fall in recent weeks a number of hill roads particularly in the Gleneely area have been washed away. Today’s allocation will be used by the Council to deal with these problems and I have no doubt that this money will be greatly welcomed by all affected in those areas.”
