Urris crash out of championship 14.08.08
GAA - Daly Brothers' Intermediate Football Championship

NA ROSSA...3-12

URRIS...0-09

by Chris McNulty, Inishowen Independent, at Pairc Dooey

FORMER Donegal panellist Martin Caulfield hit a deadly 2-4 as Na Rossa breezed past Urris in the second leg of this Intermediate Championship clash at Dooey on Saturday evening, sealing a place in the semi finals for Declan Bonner's charges.
Caulfield bagged the second of his goals in a late blitz that also saw sub Peter Gallagher hit the net as the home side put a late gloss on the scoreline that was perhaps a little harsh on Urris. The Inishowen men, though, were always playing second fiddle and had just one score from play over the hour.
Na Rossa led 1-8 to 0-4 at the break, with JP McCready popping over four frees in the opening half, two of them from beyond the '45' while the goal came from Caulfield on 27 minutes. The impressive Donal Trimble fielded well in the middle of the field before offloading to full-back Shane Melly. His perfectly directed pass forward was perfect for Caulfield to get in around the back to smash home past the helpless Sean Noone.
Four frees by Michael Harkin were all the visitors had to show at the end of the first period. The late arrival of the visitors, who were badly struggling with numbers (they arrived with just 17 players togged out) caused the start time to be put back fifteen minutes, while the Reserve game between the teams had to be called off as Urris
couldn't field.
To their credit, though, they didn't give up the ghost, but their lack of cohesive play in the final third would ultimately prove fatal. From Caulfield's goal three minutes from the interval, the closest Urris came was to within five points when Dara Doherty converted a free five minutes from the end.
While Na Rossa continued to hold the upper hand, they weren't as impressive in the second half as they had been in the first, although a neat effort from distance by Cormac McHugh and a pair of points from
play by Martin Caulfield ensured that they were 1-11 to 0-9 ahead as the game entered its final few moments.
Pat Caulfield drove over after taking a pass from JP McCready, before Na Rossa concluded the evening in the best possible fashion.
Substitute Peter Gallagher prodded home in a scramble after Martin Caulfield rounded the 'keeper to set up the chance. And Caulfield himself had the final say when he had the simplistic task of rattling the net after good work by Paul Byrne.
Urris' only real bright sparks were the points of Michael Harkin, while Na Rossa had good individual displays from Shane Melly, Damien Melly, Donal Trimble, JP McCready and Martin Caulfield.
