Have a little Donegal Pride 15.02.08

INISHOWEN community groups are being urged to put themselves forward for this year's Donegal Pride of Place competition.
Last year Cashel na Cor, a centre for people with disabilities in Buncrana was a county award winner and was among five groups to go on to represent Donegal in the national heats.
Garry Martin, Donegal County Council community and enterprise divisional manager; Donegal Mayor John Boyle and Michelle McGill, community and enterprise division at the launch of the Pride of Place 2008 Awards for County Donegal. "If community groups are currently involved in any activity, which gives people a reason to be proud of their local area, the advice is to get involved now. Please encourage community groups in your area to participate in this rewarding competition," said a spokesperson.
Pride of Place is a competition directed towards recognising improvements by local communities to create civic pride in their area. The focus is on people, coming together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about their local area.
"Too often, the tremendous time and effort that people put into community activities on a purely voluntary basis is overlooked. This competition is unique in that it recognises and rewards people for their vital contribution to their local community," added the spokeperson.
