Inishowen's Donegal People of the Year 25.02.08

INISHOWEN is well represented among this year's winners of the Rehab/Donegal County Council People of the Year Awards.
Hugo Boyce The ten winners announced on Thursday include Hugo Boyce from Clonmany, who, despite battling cancer in his teens and undergoing a kidney transplant 19 years ago, still went on to win Gold at the World Transplant Games. Other Donegal People of the Year are Romanian orphanage project worker Michael Doherty from Quigley's Point with a joint award going to brave teenager Alan Doherty, whose father hails from Clonmany, and Paul McBride who coordinates
the Alan Doherty Fund.
Awards also go to veteran Muff community worker Phyllis McKenna; tireless Buncrana youth worker Francis Porter; Dungloe GP Dr. Peter Sweeney, Letterkenny community worker Margaret Toner and Killybegs-born Noel Cunningham of TV3.
Other recipients are Raphoe community worker John McGlinchey and South Donegal hotelier James White who recently raised more than €500,000 for cancer services.
A special Hall of Fame award goes to developer and community worker Joseph McMenamin from the Twin Towns.
A Rehab spokesperson said the adjudicators' job was difficult due to the the "sheer amount of quality nominations". The winners, the spokesperson added, were "very worthy"
