Magee to pay students to attend 11.04.08

THE University of Ulster is planning to offer computing students £3,000 to study at Magee campus in Derry.
It says the proposal could help regenerate the economy of the city. Students will be offered the incentive to take up computing courses at the local campus. The move would cost an estimated £2m a year and the university wants the city's ratepayers to contribute almost £400,000.
Magee's vice-chancellor Jim Allen

said the North West needed more computer graduates. "If we had scholarships that were awarded competitively to high quality students, we could attract them here, I believe," he told the BBC.
"More importantly, we could retain them here in the city and regenerate the city."
