MacLochlainn in Portugal tomorrow 29.08.08

THE NATIONAL director of Sinn Féin’s Lisbon Treaty no campaign, Cllr Pádraig MacLochlainn will address a major Portuguese seminar tomorrow.
The annual 'Socialismo' event brings together progressive groupings from throughout the country to debate and discuss themes such as economics, history, science, the environment, and Europe. Prior to flying out to Porto for the seminar, he said his address would make the case for an EU that protects and develops public services, cherishes workers' rights, rejects militarisation and ensures equality of access to public services and economic prosperity between rural and urban communities.
"The Irish people, like the French and Dutch before them, have rejected the Lisbon Treaty. A new deal now needs to be negotiated. This is the message that our Government should be taking to our European partners in line with their solemn responsibility to adhere to the democratic will of the people who they represent. Unfortunately to date, they have been found wanting in this regard," he said.
“My colleagues, the MEPs, Mary Lou McDonald and Bairbre de Brún have travelled throughout Europe building support for the Irish people's decision and distributing our document. I now join them in this endeavour this weekend at the event in Porto."
