850 jobseekers attend Job Fair 07.03.08

More than 850 Inishowen jobseekers turned up this week for the Jobs Fair in Buncrana.
The success of the event ironically told its own story about the level of unemployment in the peninsula.
Nevertheless, it highlighted the effectiveness of a one-stop-shop recruitment event for both employers and prospective employees.
Aisling Sheehy of the Inishowen Deveopment Partnership (IDP), one of the organising partners, said while a lot of people used the event to pick up job application forms, two people actually walked away with jobs.

"Two of our Job Club members - a husband and wife from the Clonmany area - were interviewed during the Jobs Fair and walked away with two jobs in the hospitality industry," she said.
A total of 35 companies ranging from IT to accounting firms, showcased at the cross-border event.
Training agency FÁS was among them. FÁS senior employment services officer, Donal Dunn said the agency was proud to take part in an event that enhanced its ongoing work clinics.
"We are committed to assisting the job seeker, the unemployed person and the job changer as well as employers and the Jobs Fair was a natural progression towards this," said Mr. Dunn.
