ICRfm team back at the pitchside...  17.09.08

The Beijing Olympics are over but the Sunday Sports Show is back on Inishowen Community Radio. Sunday, September 7 saw the return of the popular show with presenter PJ McLaughlin behind the microphone helped by his production team Claire McDermott, Eddie McLaughlin, Paddy Corr, Emma McDermott, Liam Grant, Jim Doherty and new members Susan Logue and Marie McDonald.
The programme was funded last year under the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland's Sound and Vision scheme. The station has applied again this year but won’t know until early October if it's been successful or not.
Station manager Jim Doherty is hopeful: “We put a good application together and if the success of the show last year is taken into account then we’d be quite confident.
The ICRfm sports team from left, are Emma McDermott, PJ McLaughlin, Claire McDermott, Susan Logue, Eddie McLaughlin, Marie McDonald and Paddy Corr.
The programme is quite costly to produce each week even with a great voluntary input. We decided to launch it now and pay the costs from our own resources rather than wait until October as we’d be starting very late in the year and miss out on much of the Inishowen League and schools action."
While reluctant to speculate if the show can continue without funding, Jim added: “We’ll keep the show going until Christmas whether we get BCI funding or not and evaluate the situation then. It would be a pity to lose it from our schedule and I’m sure the sports community here would be disappointed too. We will wait and see what October brings but in the meantime I’d urge all schools, sports groups, and anyone in the community with an interest in local Inishowen sports to get involved."
For those who haven’t yet heard the Sunday Sports Show, tune in to 105 or 107.6 fm each Sunday afternoon from 3pm–6pm. A two-hour edited highlights version of the show can also be heard each Monday morning from 7am–9am on the station. Don’t forget ICR also broadcasts online at www.icrfm.ie and is always looking for new people to get involved in the sports show. If you would like to put your name or sports club forward, please phone Emma, PJ or Jim at the station on 93 29105 or email them at studio@icrfm.ie .
