Big North West welcome for Eoghan 08.12.08

THOUSANDS of Eoghan Quigg fans including many from Inishowen will throng Derry's Guildhall Square to see the X-Factor sensation perform live later this afternoon.
The Dungiven schoolboy secured his place in the finals along with boyband JLS and Alexandra Burke, after fans across Ireland and Britain voted in their thousands to keep him in the competition. He was devastated and in floods of tears, however, when his good pal, Diana Vickers was eliminated from the show. Entertainment will kick off at the Guildhall at 3pm today with Eoghan's live performance scheduled for late afternoon.
Derry Mayor Cllr Gerard Diver said the people of the North West had got fully behind the teen singer.
"We are delighted that Eoghan has secured a place in the finals and are looking forward to meeting him and showing our support from everyone in the city," said Cllr Diver.
Limavady Mayor Cllr Brenda Chivers said she hoped Eoghan would receive a hero's welcome in his native Dungiven and later at the Guildhall.
"Eoghan has done us proud once again with an excellent performance in the X-Factor show at the weekend. He really is a star and deserves a memorable homecoming from his fans in the North West.
"I would encourage people from across the entire North West region to show big support as he prepares for the finals next weekend," she said.

Event organisers reiterated the importance of coming early to secure a spot in Guildhall Square which can safely accommodate 3,000 fans. Members of the public are requested to use city centre car parks and to co-operate fully with the stewards who will be assisting with public information and directions during the event.
