"Adventurous" Carn kids impress Gavin 22.02.08

CARNDONAGH children are giving celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin "a run for his money" in relation to his designs for a new town park.
Gavin arrived in the North Inishowen town on Wednesday to begin a series of consultations with local schools and community groups - sessions that will form the design concepts for the Barrack Hill town park.
His visit, however, was not without controversy after the local community and development group claimed Donegal County Council snubbed it, by failing to formally invite the group to the seminar.
While there has been no statement on the media storm from the Council, InishowenNews.com understands that, as the meeting was billed as a public meeting, it was inherent that all sectors of the Carndonagh community were invited.
The TV celebrity landscape architect will consider the thoughts of more than 100 participants from the area before making the final drafts of his design.
Gavin, who charmed all those who attended the event, has teamed up with the Public Art Office and the Community and Enterprise Section of Donegal County Council to design and create in Carndonagh what will be "one of Ireland’s most imaginative and ambitious community spaces and play parks".

Committee chairperson, Cllr. Rena Donaghey said she was delighted to welcome the gardening celebrity to the peninsula.
"The provision of play and recreation space is a key priority of Donegal County Council working through its Community and Enterprise Division," she said.
And the celebrity himself, said he had was impressed with the ideas pitched so far. ‘I’m delighted to be in Carndonagh working with the children to come up with ideas for the new community garden. So far, they have been giving me a real run for my money and I only hope the adults will be as adventurous," he said.
