Growing speculation on Malin Head Coast Guard 29.05.08

TRANSPORT Minister Noel Dempsey is coming under continued pressure to retain Malin Head Coast Guard as a marine rescue co-ordination centre.
There is now growing speculation that not only will Malin Head Coast Guard be retained but will also be upgraded in line with recommendations in an earlier report.
Malin Head Coast Guard A Fianna Fáil delegation travelled from north and south Inishowen on Tuesday to meet with Minister Dempsey and Tánaiste Mary Coughlan to discuss the future of the centre.
The meeting was also attended by Oireachtas members from Donegal.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney said: “I was very satisfied that both
Minister Dempsey and Tánaiste Coughlan were available again to hear our contributions to the current debate on Malin Head Coast Guard.
"This is a highly respected facility and, while we await the update from Fearon, I know that we have used every opportunity to keep the Ministers aware of our feelings on this important matter." The arrival of the Inishowen Fianna Fáil delegation in Dublin followed similar appeals to Mr. Dempsey last week from their colleague, Deputy Niall Blaney.
