Gardai investigate Buncrana burglaries 28.10.08

GARDAI are investigating two burglaries in the Buncrana area in recent days.
A vacant mobile home was broken into and ransacked in Desertegney and a number of tools were stolen. Among the items taken in the raid were a surveyor's tripod, an architectural measuring ruler, an electrical inverter and an orange-coloured McCullough chainsaw. A car parked beside the mobile home was also broken into and damaged after the thieves prised back the driver's door. The steering wheel was ripped from the vehicle despite having a steering wheel lock fitted. The cost of the criminal damage and theft is estimated at around €3,000. Forensic officers examined the scene on Sunday while the victim of the burglary yesterday urged people to safeguard their properties. "This was a terrible experience to go through and I would just like to warn others in the area to secure their properties as best they can," he said.
Meanwhile, Gardai are also investigating a burglary at a restaurant in Buncrana over the Bank Holiday weekend. The Beach House restaurant at the local pier was broken into some time between 1.35am and 10.30am on Sunday. Gardai say a sum of money was taken in the raid while a cigarette machine was also damaged. Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact Gardai in Buncrana on 07493 20540.
