Kevin and Marie enjoy their EU tour  12.09.08

TWO young Inishowen journalists have just returned from a three-day visit to Brussels after winning a top prize for their coverage of European affairs.
Kevin Kelly in Brussels with Jim Higgins MEP & Marie McDonald Kevin Kelly from Dunaff, Clonmany and Marie McDonald joined fellow winners in the European Young Journalism Competition from Clare, Mayo, Galway and Westmeath on the trip.
Kevin won his award for a series he wrote in his Inishowen Independent column in the run up to the Lisbon Treaty referendum.
Marie scooped her award for an Inishowen Community Radio programme on the disparity between grocery prices in Inishowen and Derry.
The competition was organised by the European People’s Party – of which MEP Jim Higgins' Fine Gael party is a member. A Brussels-based panel judged the entries.
During their visit, Kevin and Marie enjoyed discussions with MEPs, EU Parliament and Commission officials as well as media correspondents based in Brussels covering European issues. The two also had an opportunity to explore Brussels and Bruges.
