Moville woman wins top fashion award 07.01.08

A MOVILLE woman is the toast of London fashion after scooping Best New Designer in the UK Fashion Awards.
Bronagh Holmes has firmly established herself as one to watch after her win was announced on New Year's Day.
Bronagh Holmes' award-winning All Black collection. The 26-year old daughter of Jackie and Eileen Holmes who run Karma Indian restaurant in Moville, Bronagh was home for Christmas but returned to London on January 1, just hours after learning of her win.
She is currently working with the design company, Amanda Wakeley, in the British capital.
This year marked the first ever UK Fashion Awards and the winners are those who receive the most public votes.
Others to get the nod from the public were Kate Moss who won Best Model and Vivienne Westwood who picked up the Lifetime Achievement award.
InishowenNews.com caught up with Bronagh last night. Speaking from London, she explained that her winning collection was what she created in 2007 for her final year as a fashion student at the University of Westminster.
Although not a biker herself, she said the collection was inspired by motorcycles.
"I don't have a motorbike myself but I love motorbikes and everything to do with them. My All Black collection incorporated a few elements from biker clothing and actual bike parts. I wanted to create something special, something with an edge yet feminine and glamorous.
"My collection makes women look like women, but who can kick-ass at any given moment."
Bronagh, who devoted herself to Art at Carndonagh Community School, also studied for a short time at the former NWIFHE in Derry and also completed a one year course in fashion design at Galway

Meanwhile, mum Eileen, who travelled back last night from a visit to her designer daughter added: "We are all very proud of her."
