Greencastle mum scoops €50K 09.12.08

"Life-changing" win for Bernie

CHRISTMAS has come early for one Inishowen mum who scooped a fantastic €50,750 on RTE's Winning Streak on Saturday night.
Bernie Kearney, a lone parent from Greencastle, deposited the biggest cheque of her life in a Moville bank yesterday and said her win had still not sunk in.
"This is life-changing for me. When you're a lone parent and the bills are mounting up, you worry about paying them," said the 39-year old mother-of-one.
"Next week, I'll be able to sit down for the first time and say to myself 'now which bill will I pay first'," she laughed.
The money is even more welcome given that Bernie, whose 20-year old son works and lives in Letterkenny, currently has only part-time work - as a housekeeper in Moville's Caiseal Mara Hotel.
"When you don't have full time work and when the economy is in a downturn, I know I was very lucky. But I honestly don't think it has sunk in yet."

healthy lump sum will leave her comfortable for the foreseeable future.
"It's great to think I'll be able to look after my son and we can have a comfortable lifestyle. I'll be 40 next year so I might do something special for that too." Bernie was accompanied by family members to the TV gameshow in Dublin. They cheered her on as she was chosen to Spin-the-Wheel. When they returned to Greencastle on Sunday, her brother Daniel held a party for her to celebrate. Bernie said waking up on a cold winter Monday, €50K the richer, was "an amazing feeling".
