Inishowen painting "my
worst investment"

A multi-million selling
recording artist has described a painting of Malin
Head as her "worst investment".
Award-winning singer and actress Barbara Dickson
said she purchased the painting depicting a
traditional scene in Malin Head thinking it would
make a great investment.
Years later, the 60-year old now says the painting
has not increased in value as she had expected. |

"I bought an Irish
painting, 'Digging for Lugworm, Malin Head, Co
Donegal', by Arthur Twells, which I was convinced
was worth much more than it was. I paid about £600
for it and it’s not worth much more now, but it is
an Irish painting and it’s charming. That’ll teach
me," said Dickson in a Fame and Fortune profile by
the 'Sunday Times'.
Scots-born Dickson who has an OBE and an Olivier
award for acting, has firmly established herself as
one of the most versatile performers in Britain.
Famous not least for her long-running role in the
musical 'Blood Brothers' and 'Spend, Spend, Spend', |

she plays the National Concert Hall in Dublin on
September 10 and the Waterfront Hall, Belfast, the
following night. Arthur H. Twells was born in
Britain circa 1921 and appears to have painted a
number of landscapes of Donegal. Asking prices for
his work can run into the thousands. |
