ARE you a typical
Inishowen family that prides itself in promoting
strict values, discipline and respect for each
other?
Independent programme maker Chris Taylor has
contacted InishowenNews.com in the hope of finding a
family to participate in a new documentary he is
producing for the BBC. He hopes to bring two English
teenagers to Donegal to live with a local family for
8-10 days. The goal is for the teenagers to
experience first hand how different family units
operate around the world; to expose them to
different cultural values, expectations, rules,
discipline, authority and attitudes to education.
"The documentary is exploring different cultural
approaches to parenting around the world. We have
recently filmed two successful programmes for this
series in India and Ghana, and are currently filming
episodes in Alabama, USA and Jamaica," explained
Chris. He needs to find a host family who represent
strict, traditional values to discipline,
self-respect, personal responsibility and strong
work ethics. The family need to have teenagers of
their own living in the household and the parents
must be confident in imposing their parenting values
on the teenagers, who will generally come from a
more relaxed and indulgent family environment with
few boundaries and a misguided sense of discipline.
"Importantly we do not want our teenagers to be
guests within the home, but to be treated as members
of the family. They must be expected to follow the
same rules, abide by the same routines, perform the
same chores, attend the same school, and face the
same consequences if they do not stick to the family
rules. The teenagers' living expenses will be
covered for the duration of the stay," added Chris.
The programme makers are also looking at other
counties on the western seaboard as part of their
