Treasure trove in store
for bargain hunters

SHOPPERS looking for a bargain in these tight times
will be sure to keep November 7 marked in their
diary when everything from a picture frame to a
stack of turf could be up for grabs at the annual
Malin parish auction in St. Patrick’s Hall, Malin.
One of the organisers of the auction, Eugene
McLaughlin, told the Inishowen Independent this week
that local people have been gearing themselves up
for the auction and he fully expects this year’s
event to be another huge success.
“The people have been great and really supported the
auctions over the past few years, I suppose it’s a
great way for them to get rid of some stuff while at
the same time helping the parish raise some funds.”
And while he admitted that the tighter economic
climate might mean that some people may not be able
to donate items, he suggested it might also work in
the organisers favour as well.
“I suppose there might be a few people who won’t be
able to donate, but then again if there are people
out there looking for a bargain there will be no
better place to go.”
Eugene confirmed that the organisers had already
secured a number of pledged donations of a wide
range of items that many will be eager to snap up.
“I suppose there’s a bit of recycling going on but
it’s not all just items that people want to get rid
of and every year there have been some great
bargains and this year won’t be any different.”
The only thing that the organisers of the auction
won’t take are items of clothing while some of the
local shops also donate items for sale on the night
of the auction, which has attracted huge crowds over
the past few years.
Donations for this year’s auction will be taken in
during the first week of November, but anyone who
has items they wish to donate can contact the
committee to let them know in advance.
