AssetCo workers take fire safety course 13.03.08

by Liam Porter, Inishowen Independent

A GROUP of volunteers from Lisfannon-based company AssetCo have spent the past few weeks undergoing an intensive training programme with the Buncrana Fire Service.
The course which is part of a test programme being undertaken by the company who are developing a works fire team course, was described as a huge success with volunteers all thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Pictured during training last week are left Donal Grant, David Byrne and Johnny Lynch from AssetCo. Three staff members from the Lisfannon centre and one AssetCo staff member from England participated in the course which involved a mixture of theory and practical coursework.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent, AssetCo spokesman Mr. Jim Robinson said the feedback from the volunteers had been very positive.
“We will have a formal feedback session with the guys who did
the course but the initial feedback has been very positive and they thoroughly enjoyed the course.”
During the two week course the four staff members who were drawn from a large group of company volunteers had a number of lectures and practical sessions teaching them to deal with a variety of different scenarios.
“We had a huge response from the staff and a lot of people wanted to take part in the course and they all couldn’t be accommodated.”
Mr. Robinson said Buncrana had been chosen because the Fire Station in the town was convenient to their Lisfannon base.
“It was handy to have the Fire Station so close and when we spoke to the Fire Service in Donegal County Council they were very helpful and gave us every assistance.”
The AssetCo spokesman added that many large companies in England are now developing similar courses but added that this was the first time AssetCo had been involved in such a course.
“The guys who completed the course certainly seemed to have enjoyed it, but they have also indicated that have a much greater appreciation for the work of the fire service now,” Mr. Robinson concluded.
