Art centre to draw down €570,000 02.05.08

ARTLINK in Buncrana couldn't have created a nicer picture - a Goverment cheque with €570,000 to be drawn on it.
The local community arts group is celebrating news of the windfall to be allocated by the Depatment of Arts, Sports and Tourism. Senator Cecilia Keaveney, a former chair of the Government Arts Committee, welcomed the allocation and explained that it was made following recommendation to Arts Minister, Seamus Brennan, by an independent selection committee.

Its facilities include a drawing and painting studio, a compact and professionally lit exhibition area and a fully-equipped ceramics studio.
Artlink was formed to promote
"the value of the visual arts in collaborative, public and community contexts and to create opportunities for participation by a broad range of groups and individuals".
It is involved as partners in the Donegal Public Art Policy and Strategy 2006 –2010 and has worked on a number of public projects, residencies and site-specific commissions. Artlink, which offers night classes to the public, has been for some time on the reserve list for the Department's ACCESS Programme grant aid.
Senator Keaveney said: "I’m delighted as a former chair of the Arts Committee to see this money come to Donegal North East and the great project, which has been Artlink to date."
