Buncrana gets €2m for affordable housing 07.05.08

BUNCRANA Town Council will get €2 million to spend this year on social and affordable housing.
The allocation is part of a total of €34.775 million for county from the Department of Environment and Local Government.
The rest of Inishowen's social and affordable housing needs will be catered for from the €26.525 million allocated to Donegal County Council.
Meanwhile, €5 million goes to Letterkenny Town Council with €1.25 million for Bundoran Town Council. The allocation to Donegal County Council includes a sum of €2.3 million in respect of voluntary housing. The County Council’s allocation also includes €350,000 for Traveller accommodation and €125,000 for central heating upgrades.
A Donegal County Council spokesperson said the allocation of €23.75 million to Donegal County Council for 2008 would cover all existing contractual obligations. "The question of new starts in 2008 will require further discussions with the Department on the possibility of a further allocation later in the year," added the spokesperson.
The allocations to the three town councils in the county will include, for the first time, the cost of voluntary housing under the Capital Loan Subsidy Scheme.
