Gavin's Carn playground goes out to tender 26.05.09

CELEBRITY gardener Diarmuid Gavin's design for a children's playground in Carndonagh has been put out to tender by Donegal County Council.
Gavin's company, DG Designs, received €60,000 for designing a unique town park including children's playground, at Barrick Hill, Carndonagh
The local authority recently put the construction of the playground phase of the development out to tender. The publication date was May 7, 2009 while the deadline for providers to submit their quotations for the work is July 3, 2009.
Diarmuid Gavin The job included in the contract consists of the supply, delivery and erection of playground equipment and surfacing material. It also includes fencing and access gates as well as the associated groundworks.
Donegal County Council's community and enterprise area manager, Aideen Doherty, said the local authority would qualify the tenders after July 3 and would work in co-operation with the playground committee in agreeing the final award of the contract.
Ms Doherty also confirmed that the Woodland Area of Diarmuid Gavin's
design was currently in the "bedding in" stage and would be officially opened in the coming months when the plants and shrubs passed their fragile stage.
Gavin, an award-winning landscape architect, considered the thoughts of more than 100 participants from the Carndonagh area including school children before making the final drafts of his design. Those involved said the park would be "one of Ireland’s most imaginative and ambitious community spaces and play parks". Meanwhile, Donegal County Council has also put out to tender the construction of the proposed children's playground at Clós Phadraig, Carndonagh.
