Manhunt continues in Algarve

POLICE in the Algarve
are continuing a manhunt for the killers of
Greencastle's Paul Houston. Mr Houston, 51, the
president of Greencastle Golf Club, died following a
violent attack in the village of Alvor in the early
hours of Sunday. Polícia Judiciária spokesperson
Anna Mourao last night said detectives were still
awaiting the results of a post mortem examination. |

A young staff member in
a popular Irish bar in Alvor said she served Mr
Houston earlier on the night of the attack. "He came
in on his own, had one drink and left. I recognised
him because he had been in here a few days earlier
with his friends. I know they were over on a golfing
holiday," said the young woman, who didn't want to
be named. "I couldn't believe it the following day
when I heard what had happened to him." The young
woman said police in Alvor are going bar-to-bar
looking for CCTV footage in a bid to catch the
killers. It is understood that the chief suspects
are two Brazilian men. Members of Mr Houston's
family including his children, flew to Alvor
yesterday. People in the victim's home village of

struggling to come to
terms with the death, in such horrific
circumstances, of a much-loved and respected local
man. Greencastle Golf Club manager Billy McCaul
yesterday said the course would remain open until
the committee received more formal details about the
repatriation of the remains and the funeral
arrangements.
"In the meantime, we had to ask ourselves what Paul
would have wanted and we agreed he would probably
have said, 'go out and enjoy a round of golf, come
back and have a drink and remember me'," said Mr
McCaul.
