Garda watchdog probes Fahan crash 03.11.09

THE Garda Ombudsman is investigating a weekend crash in Fahan in which a young female driver was injured. It is understood the 18-year old woman, from Derry, was being pursued by a patrol car as she left Buncrana around 2.30am. Her car, a Renault Megane, subsequently crashed into a pole at Figary, Fahan, on the main road to Derry. Fire officers attended the scene to assist with the removal of the woman - the sole occupant - from the car.
The two cars involved in the crash at Figary, Fahan, in the early hours of Sunday are towed away from the scene.
She was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. A spokesperson for the Garda Ombudsman yesterday confirmed that an investigative team was dispatched to the scene on Sunday. The road was cordoned off and traffic was diverted until late afternoon. The spokesperson said the Ombudsman's investigative team had "identified persons of assistance" and were not likely to appeal further for witnesses to the incident.
