Special ICRfm Budget debate 10.12.09

INISHOWEN Community Radio will air a special two-hour debate on Budget 2010 tomorrow, Friday, December 11 between 9am and 11am. The programme, presented by Kevin Kelly, will focus on the main budgetary decisions outlined by the Finance Minister, Brian Lenihan yesterday. It will pay particular attention to decisions affecting Inishowen.
“After months of speculation on the budget on Wednesday we will finally learn what is to be introduced in an attempt to correct our financial position. In July the station broadcast a debate following the publication of Colm McCarthy’s An Bord Snip Nua report which caught the public’s imagination,” said station manager Jim Doherty.
The panel on the day will be made up of a mix of local representatives and community representatives. Confirmedat present are councillors Bernard McGuinness, Charlie McConalogue,
Padraig Maclochlainn and Inishowen Independent journalist Damian Dowds.
“It has been our intention with these debate programmes to delve beneath the sometimes generic coverage of policy decisions
by the national media to focus instead on their likely impact on Inishowen.
"Our listenership has strongly welcomed this initiative and commented that they enjoy this type of coverage for two reasons - it gives them an insight into the decisions themselves and the opportunity to hear representatives from their own community debate and analyse them," added Jim.
Listeners are encouraged to get involved in tomorrow's debate by either texting or calling their comments to the station. People can contact the programme by texting or calling their comments to 086 8331000 or 074 9329105. The show will be repeated tomorrow evening between 7pm-9pm.
