Music video boost for area 23.06.10

By Eamonn McDermott

INISHOWEN has some of the most spectacular scenery in the country but is a ‘pure secret to tourism’, a film director working here last week has claimed.
Michael Bracken, a film producer/director based in Mullingar, was in Inishowen to shoot a music video for ‘The Three Amigos’ - singers Jimmy Buckley, Robert Mizzell and Patrick Feeney.
The video was shot at Dunree Fort, the Five Finger Strand, Mamore Gap and other parts of the county.
Michael said he could not speak highly enough of the hospitality and assistance he had received in the area but added that Inishowen was a ‘well kept secret’ as regards the wider community.
Michael said: “I have been coming here for about 20 years and I have to say that as regards tourism, Inishowen is vastly under marketed.
“We are based in Mullingar and when I talked to people about coming to Inishowen they had no idea where I was talking about.
“Everyone has heard of Letterkenny and the likes of Donegal Town but the Mamore Gap means nothing to them.
“The scenery here is spectacular but the area needs to be marketed so that people know. Anyone coming to Donegal should leave at least three days to visit Inishowen.”

Michael Bracken added: “Even in terms of direction the area is very badly served. We are filming in Mamore Gap and we have had to hire a local to ensure everyone gets there because if you were relying on direction signs you would never find it.”
The music video was shot on Tuesday is a variety of locations.
Michael said: “The video we are doing is the Mull of Kintyre and so I suppose we should have been shooting in Scotland.
“But we found some of the scenery around here was perfect for what we wanted.
“We filmed in Dunree Fort and I would have to thank David Magee for his help, and we also filmed at the top and bottom of Mamore Gap. We also went to, what to me is one of the best beaches in Ireland, the Five Finger Strand.
“We also have a helicopter for use in the shoot and that picked up some of the great scenery around here.”
The crew for the shoot were based at the Harbour Inn and they had a lot of local help and assistance.
Michael said: “We have a local woman, Joan Wilkin, doing make-up and there is a young apprentice on the shoot, Darren McDaid.
“Even the local farmer at Mamore Gap moved his sheep for us so that the helicopter could work there.
He added: “We also would like to thank Bernie Carny and Vera McDaid who catered for us during the shoot.”
Michael Bracken has been involved in making motor sport programmes for Sky TC+V and Setanta for many years. He also produces much of the work for Foster and Allen.
