Patchwork Party in Buncrana 25.06.10

BEAUTIFUL handmade patchwork quilts will be sold in Buncrana this weekend to raise money for cancer patients. The big charity quilt sale will take place as part of the second annual Patchwork Party and Quilt Jamboree on Sunday, June 27, at the Restex Bedding Showroom in Lisfannon. All of the quilts on sale are from the archive of The Fennel Shed run by Buncrana woman Gaye Grant who also edits 'Irish Quilt and Craft' magazine. “So many of us have known the pain of losing a friend, family member or loved one to cancer and selling these quilts to raise funds for cancer charities seemed like the perfect way to show support to cancer sufferers and their carers,“ she said. The quilts will be sold at prices well below their retail value and all the proceeds will go to three cancer charities, namely the Irish Cancer Society, the Oncology Unit at Letterkenny General Hospital and Belfast City Hospital Cancer Care.
Gaye said the idea for the sale came about because she simply does not have the space anymore to store the fabulous quilts and wanted to use them to raise funds for both local and national cancer organisations. The jamboree will also feature the completion of the ‘Bind Us Together’ quilt which has been made over the past few months by readers of 'Irish Quilt and Craft' and will be raffled on the day for the same three charities. Last year's inaugural jamboree attracted hundreds of visitors to Donegal many of Gaye Grant of who will host her second quilt jamboree.
whom stayed for additional workshops and classes. New and antique quilts will be on display, with workshops, demonstrations, shops and refreshments. The day is free and everyone is welcome.
