InishowenNews.com smashes 1 million hits 09.02.10

INISHOWENNEWS.COM has got the new year off to a flying start with a staggering 1 million hits in the month of January.
The website, which has grown rapidly, broke the million-hits-a-month milestone after a big surge in traffic last month. Its readership has also jumped to over 1,000 visitors a day.
Website manager Brendan Deehan said the new year milestone was reached due to a combination of factors including more news, a bigger business directory and top rankings on search engines such as Google. He also put the rise down to a growing following on outlets such as Facebook and Twitter.
"The popularity of the website continues to grow from week to week. The volume of emails and phone calls we receive has also dramatically increased with people enquiring about everything from when we carried a certain story to where to find a good local restaurant or plumber. We do our best to help everyone or try to point them in the right direction."
Brendan added: "Our success is due to a loyal following of readers and our thanks goes to the hundreds of local businesses who have supported us by joining our business directory."
InishowenNews.com was set up in 2007 and steadily grew readership to its latest peak of 1,200 visitors a day.
The website's editor Linda McGrory said she was delighted with the big rise in hits and readership.
"We work hard at the website and try to publish as many stories, notices and other items we think are important and relevant to our readers. We also like to have a bit of fun and bring readers quirky and humorous stories too when we find them," she said.
"We have a lot of people contacting us and thanking us for bringing them local news in such a user friendly and easy-to-read way."
