Summer Stars at your library 09.06.26

DONEGAL Library Service is thrilled to announce a comprehensive programme of events for children this summer. The Summer Stars 2026 offers a diverse range of activities at your local library branches, creating a fun and engaging environment.
The programme was officially launched by the Cathaoirleach of the Inishowen Municipal District, Councillor Martin McDermott at Carndonagh Community Library marking the beginning of a busy and exciting summer of reading and events for children and families.
Summer Stars Reading Programme 2026 was launched at Carndonagh Community Library, with pupils and staff from Scoil Chroí Naofa, Carndonagh in attendance.
Summer Stars is a free programme that encourages children of all ages to enjoy reading during the summer months while taking part in fun activities, events, and challenges in their local library.
A full programme of events has been organised across Inishowen, including storytelling sessions, arts and crafts workshops, interactive shows, and creative activities designed to spark imagination and foster a lifelong love of reading.

Buncrana Community Library
• 17th June 11am - 12noon - Climate Change Movie

• 25th June 11am - 12.noon - Story Under the Tree
Magical stories under our library tree. Where the magic never stops and the adventure never ends.


Carndonagh Community Library
• 9th June 11.00am - 12.00noon - Toddler Tales
Join us for an interactive experience of storytelling, rhymes and colouring. Ages 3-6 years.

• 16th June 10.00am - 10.45am - Judging a Book by its Cover
Book reviews by our own book experts and designers. Find and read more books you'll love.

• 19th June 1.45pm - 2.00pm - Climate Change Movie

• 24th June 10.00am - 11.00am - Toddler Tales

Moville Branch Library

Speaking at the launch, Cllr Martin McDermott said: “Summer Stars is a wonderful initiative that encourages children across Donegal to discover the joy of reading while taking part in creative and engaging activities in their local libraries. It is fantastic to see such a diverse programme of free events on offer again this year, providing opportunities for children and families to connect, learn and have fun together.”

The programme promises a diverse range of activities that appeal to various interests. With activities like Circus skills, Lego challenges, painting and craft classes, scavenger hunts, Author readings, and friendship bracelet making, the Summer Stars Programme truly makes sure that there is something for everyone this summer.
Each participant will receive incentives when they sign up for Summer Stars, with further rewards available as they progress through their reading journey.

Visit your nearest library branch to register your children in the comprehensive schedule of events. It is an opportunity for them to meet new friends, learn something new and be in with the chance to win prizes as they do so.
