Information meeting for Donegal diabetics 28.01.15

DIABETICS in Donegal are being invited to a free information meeting that will discuss current and future developments in the management of their condition.
Diabetes affects one-in-three Irish families while the total number of people living with diabetes nationwide is estimated at about 225,840.
The information meeting will focus on a patient's future with type 1 diabetes and will provide information especially for children and young adults with the condition as well as their families, carers and friends.
The event, organised by Diabetes Ireland, will be addressed by paediatric consultant endocrinologist at Sligo Regional Hospital Dr Neylon. Dr Neylon said: "In conjunction with the anticipated delivery of a regional insulin pump service this year, I am delighted to discuss technology and future developments in the management of young people with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
"We are excited about the commencement of this service, which will offer local provision of internationally equitable care to children and adolescents in the North West."
Other guest speakers will include paediatric diabetes nurse specialist Avril McCloskey and dietician Fiona Hegarty who will speak about how best to manage diabetes on a day to day basis. They will also talk about the importance of sick day management and carbohydrate counting.
"Living with diabetes is not easy, however with the right information and support there is no reason why people with diabetes cannot live life to the full," said a Diabetes Ireland spokesperson.
The meeting will be held at the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny, on Sunday, February 8 from 2.30pm to 5pm. More information available from Regina Patton at 914 6001 or wro@diabetes.ie .
