Malin panel beater hammers opposition 01.08.13

A YOUNG Inishowen panel beater has hammered the opposition to book a place at the prestigious 2013 Skill Auto UK finals.
Andrew McDonald (21) from Malin first had to beat off competition from other talented students across the North. He then went up against the best of the best at the recent Auto Apprentice Championships 2013 in Wolverhampton.
The Donegal welding wizard scooped top prize there to secure a slot at the Skill Auto UK finals at Birmingham's NEC in November.
Malin's Andrew McDonald is congratulated on his win at the Auto Apprentice Championships 2013 by NWRC engineering curriculum manager, Aidan Boyle and lecturer Paul Harrison.
A second year trainee at the North West Regional College in Derry, the talented Donegal man will compete against five other finalists in crash repairs, welding, car panel removal and parts replacement. They will be watched by thousands of visitors as well as motor industry leaders on the look-out for top talent.
The winner will secure a place at the prestigious WorldSkills 2015 in Brazil described as the "Olympics of auto skills".
Proud lecturer, Paul Harrison, said: “Andrew is very motivated and enthusiastic at all the tasks assigned to him. I know he will do well, both in the competition and in his career. He would be a major asset to any employer within the motor trade."
