Revival of Quigley's Point Regatta 05.09.12

THE LONG overdue revival of Quigley's Point Regatta will take place this Saturday after an absence of 20 years.
The regatta was once the highlight of the sporting and social year in the Foyleside village having been held annually since the 1890s.
Now, local sailors and non sailors alike are looking forward to a number of events on sea and land during the day-long event on September 8.
The first of two Foyle Punt Races starts at 2pm. Prior to this, events will begin at 12 midday with kayak and canoe instruction.
Reviving what was a staple of Quigley’s Point Regatta until the 1960s, there will be a 'First to the Oyster Ground' race for local fishing vessels. There will be a perpetual cup for the winners.
Events at the shore will conclude with a hot toddy at 5pm.
Entertainment and presentations will take place in Cabry House Bar starting at 7pm.
"The committee would like to offer sincere thanks for assistance, help and sponsorship to the Loughs Agency, Foyle Port, Burke Shipping, Gulfstream Marine, McDaid Plant Hire, Black Mickey, Kenny Weir and the many members of the local community, fishermen and sailors who have contributed to the revival of the historic Quigley’s Point Regatta," said a spokesperson.
