Eddie praises Rosato's 'team-work'

MOVILLE'S secret is
well and truly out. Local favourite Rosato's has
been named best Irish pub 2010 by the Sunday World
Pub Spy.
As the bar industry in Donegal and countrywide takes
a battering, Inishowen can pride itself that a small
family-run pub-restaurant has been named 'cream of
the crop' by the long-standing bar critic.
The cosy Malin Road premises, which employs 20 full
and part-time staff, impressed during the summer
when the widely-read newspaper columnist gave it the
'wow' factor.
But Rosato's owners Eddie and Margaret Harkin were
stunned at the weekend when their popular premises
scooped the overall spot. |

Pub Spy said of his
first visit to Rosato's: "What a find! What a pub!
What an atmosphere! Here is a pub that at first
glance is authentic and at a first glance it is
spotless.
"It was shining like a new pin, from top to bottom.
They were playing modern music, using the very
latest in computerised cash registers and yet the
pub has retained that olde-worlde pub charm."
Pub Spy continued with the praise: "The Young
Commando was full of praise for the barman, pointing
out that he was serving drink, serving food, helping
people with the local geography and helping others
to find accommodation. The layout is just perfect,
with at least three different sections, and while
they are not far apart, they are each to their
own.The toilets were neatly and tastefully done in
timber and the two urinals and cubicle just sparkle.
There was an electric dryer and paper towels."
Eddie said all the staff were delighted when Pub Spy
gave them the "wow" factor but they were stunned to
come out tops.
He now hopes the accolade will not only provide a
boost for Moville but the wider Inishowen area as
well.
"It's a nice promotion for Inishowen and hopefully
us being named Pub of the Year will be good for the
area generally."
He paid tribute to his hard-working staff and said
the recognition was down to "good team work".
"We were up against a lot of good competition and
we're really proud. Our hard work and the staff's
hard work has paid off."
Eddie acknowledged these were challenging times for
the industry and business generally: "It has been
tough for pubs and businesses in the area, but
thankfully we're doing ok. Our food is really
popular with locals and we're delighted with their
support."
Rosato's beat off stiff competition from other bars
including Monks of Ballyvaughan, Co Clare, McHugh's
of Sligo, Loughlene Inn, Collinstown, Co Westmeath
and Johnny Dunne's, Newbridge, Co Kildare, to take
the top honours.
Eddie added: "I think Rosato's always has a nice
atmosphere about it so it was nice for the reviewers
to pick up on that and although they didn't have
anything to eat, I think the good food helps add to
the ambience. They always remarked on the
cleanliness which is of huge importance to us and
all the staff." |
