Arty Donegal impresses 21.03.11

A WHOPPING 816 students from Co Donegal have submitted paintings to this year’s 57th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
The 816 are among 30,000 entries received from students in each of the 32 counties.
Texaco Children's Art Competition judge and Malin artist Dr Denise Ferran, admires the painting ‘Still Waters’ by Carndonagh Community School pupil Christopher Cavanagh, 17.
The number of entries from Donegal is significantly higher than last year when 593 students took part.
"This outcome has helped Donegal become the eleventh highest county in Ireland in terms of entries received – a level of participation that explains why Donegal students have taken top prizes in the event in recent years," said a Texaco Children's Art Competition spokesperson.
Judging of entries is currently taking place and winners will be announced in early April. This will be followed by the prize-giving ceremony in May.
