Santa helps Carn hospital fundraiser 04.12.11

THERE will be a ho, ho, whole lot of fun at Carndonagh Shopping Centre with a Christmas fundraiser to help two local hospitals.
Visit Santa at the shopping centre and all proceeds raised will go to Carndonagh Community Hospital and the James Connolly Memorial Hospital.
Santa will be visiting a grotto at the Shopping Centre for the next two Saturdays, December 10 and December 17 from 12pm till 4pm.
Children can meet Santa and get a toy and a photo taken. A fixed donation will be requested for the Patient Comfort Fund at both local hospitals.
The joint initiative involves not only the hospitals but FÁS, G&S Costcutters, Inish Pharmacy...and of course Santa.
Acting director of Nursing at Carndonagh Community Hospital, Caroline Callaghan said: ‘When Inish Pharmacy contacted both Julian Theseira (Director of Nursing at the JCM Hospital) and I about the possibility of Santa helping raise funds for the patients’ we thought it would be a great idea.
Michael Doherty of G&S Costcutters added: ‘In the past, people have come to see Santa at Carndonagh Shopping Centre for free.
So we appreciate this may come as something as a surprise. However this year we ask people to support our local hospitals by donating to see Santa.
"We want to give people a quality experience and they should feel good about their trip to see Santa and also the fact that the hospitals are benefitting.
Meanwhile, Colin Deeny, of Inish Pharmacy said: "Just about everyone in Inishowen has or has had someone they know and care about in one of these hospitals at some stage. I think that it is great that Santa wants to come to Carndonagh Shopping Centre to meet the children – he can do no more and that will be magical enough.
"We have limited funds this year - however we ask people to give the Patients’ Comfort Fund a boost and come and see Santa at Carndonagh Shopping Centre. We aim to offer our support for this each year - and each year work to improve on what we offer – Santa is in full approval and you can’t ask for more than that."
A Santa spokesman said the 'big man' himself thought the Carn fundraiser was a "great idea".
Donations are as follows:
€4 - one child - includes 1 photo and 1 toy
€7 - two children - includes 1 photo and 2 toys
€10 - three children or more – one group photo and and three or more toys
