Scoil Mhuire pupils raise €1,600 10.10.07

BIG-HEARTED students from Scoil Mhuire in Buncrana have raised €1,600 to help orphans in Romania.
Seanad Education spokesperson, Senator Cecilia Keaveney congratulated all those from the local secondary school who raised the money through a quirky 'Wellie Walk'.
"The spirit of wanting to do something to ease the difficult lives of those less fortunate than ourselves is evident in this initiative and shows the great work our young people are engaged in,” said Senator Keaveney.
“Two of the students will be going to spend a week in Romania in what will be far from a holiday environment. This will truly be an education that I'm sure they will bring back to their school-mates and their communities alike. I wish them well.”
The Inishowen-based senator said it was important for people to recognise the plight of those less fortunate.
“At a time when Ireland is looked upon by so many countries as wealthy and prosperous, it is so important that we, as adults, continue to draw our own attentions and those of the next generation, to the plight of those less fortunate, whether that is in our own country or abroad," she added.
