PEOPLE on social
welfare payments in Inishowen can look forward to a
double payment in the first week of December.
The payment is designed to ease the financial burden
on families over the festive period.
Donegal North East T.D., Deputy Niall Blaney said
the double entitlements would be a "welcome boost"
at a stressful time.
"The bonus payment is relied on by hundreds of
thousands of people. It’s a lifeline at this time of
year as spending pressures increase," said Deputy
Blaney.
Weekly social welfare payments eligible for the
Christmas bonus include all forms of the State
pension; disability pensions; deserted wife's
benefit; carer's allowance and benefit; farm assist
and long-term jobseeker's allowance as well a number
of other employment support payments.
The bonus is also paid to certain participants of
FÁS, Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme, Job
Initiative and Community Employment Schemes as well
as certain income maintenance schemes operated by
the Department of Health and Children. Those in
receipt of payments under the Rural Social Scheme
will also benefit.
Deputy Blaney added:“The extra social welfare
payment is a sign of the Government’s commitment to
social welfare recipients and to supporting those
who most need help."
The double payment bonus will directly benefit 1.3
million social welfare customers nationally. |
