'Operation Main Street' in
Buncrana 17.12.07
CAMPAIGNERS are aiming
to make Buncrana's Main Street a litter-free zone in
2008.
'Operation Main Street' is the main new year theme
for the Buncrana Tidy Towns committee who held their
agm last Monday.
This and other details of the organisation's work in
2007 was outlined at the meeting when new officers
were also elected for the incoming 12 months. |

"The work done by the
Tidy Town and volunteers this year included twenty
new hanging baskets on the main street and ten at
the pier, grass verges cut on the approaches to
Buncrana, park benches cleaned and painted on the
road to Crana Bridge and flower beds planted at the
Angler's Centre," explained Rena Donaghey, who was
re-elected as chairperson.
"The wall at the ESB was cleaned and painted and
there was litter control every Saturday Morning and
some Wednesday evenings with new containers planted |
by the town gardener
and his team."
Ms. Donaghey also took the opportunity to thank
everyone involved in keeping Buncrana tidy
especially all the young volunteers and their
parents who turned up for the frequent town
clean-ups.
She also thanked Paddy McLaughlin, president of the
Buncrana Chamber of Commerce, for attending and
offering many good ideas while town gardener George
McDermott thanked the Tidy Town committee for all
the work done in 2007 to enhance the efforts of him
and his team on the local authority.
It was suggested that 'Operation Main Street' be the
main theme for the committee in 2008.
Meanwhile, the treasurer's report emphasised the
need for more funds and a plea was made to all the
community to help in any way they can. The treasurer
also thanked all the sponsors who support the work
of the committee.
