Signposting a ‘new future’ for Donegal 04.04.07

A raft of forward-thinking all-Ireland proposals brought by Sinn Fein will “signpost a new future for Donegal”.
That’s according to the party’s North West Charter document, which was launched on Monday.
Cllr Padraig MacLochlainn said the charter should be embraced by the wider business and civic society across the North West.
Pictured at the launch of the Sinn Fein North West Charter are Cllr. Padraig MacLochlainn, Bairbre de Brun MEP, Cllr. Pearse Doherty and Martina Anderson MLA. "As the only all-Ireland political party elected to every public forum on the island, Sinn Féin regards it as a national priority to identify positive programmes for developing the North West.
"With Martin McGuinness as Deputy First Minister designate, and four other Sinn Féin Ministers about to enter the
Six County Executive, we are ideally placed to deliver that agenda.”
Cllr. MacLochlainn said it wasn’t enough to simply highlight the “appalling discrimination” against the North West by British Direct Rule ministers in Belfast and the Dublin-based Departments.
“As a party fighting for the future, Sinn Fein believes a radical raft of integrated and forward-thinking all-Ireland proposals are now required to signpost a new future for Donegal,” he said.
"It makes sense that the entire North West region should be examined as a single entity in terms of area planning, transport infrastructure, social development, healthcare needs and economic growth.
“We believe Sinn Féin's North West Charter is a good starting point on that road.
"Donegal, within the North West region, is ideally suited to avail of opportunities from the British Government, the Irish Government, the Six County Assembly and the European Parliament."
