INISHOWEN'S only
recycling amenity centre in Carndonagh is to get
some funding towards its operational costs.
More than €76,000 has been allocated to Donegal
County Council to offset the costs of the county's
two civic amenity sites and its bring banks. |

The funding will help
the local authority with costs for the period July
to December last year. Local Fianna Fáil T.D., Niall
Blaney explained that the money is from a national
allocation of €4 million raised through the plastic
bag levy.
“The funding provided for Donegal |
County Council this
time around is being paid on the basis of the
information provided by the council on the costs and
the level of recycling and recovery achieved in the
six months in question," said Deputy Blaney.
“It is encouraging to see how this levy is resulting
in real improvements in Donegal through funding
allocations such as this.” There are fully
operational civic amenity sites at Carndonagh and
Stranorlar. A site in Laghey should be operational
in 2008 while work has begun on sites in Milford and
Dungloe. A site has recently been agreed for a civic
amenity plant in Letterkenny.
“Donegal people have shown their willingness to act
collectively in tackling our waste problems," added
Deputy Blaney. |
