Donegal's 999
emergency service personnel have chosen the Public
Against Road Carnage (PARC) campaign to receive all
funds from their annual fundraiser this year.
The event will take place at Voodoo, Letterkenny, on
Thursday, May 3rd, to help PARC with its fight for
mandatory alcohol/drug testing of every driver
involved in a road accident.
Culdaff-based PARC chairperson, Mrs. Susan Gray,
told InishowenNews.com: "I'm delighted we're being
backed by the personnel who see, first hand, the
effects of drink/drug driving on our roads.
"These are the people who see the immediate
devastation from carnage on our roads and their
support is a clear indication that there is
widespread disbelief that such testing does not
happen automatically after a collision."
PARC was set up in Inishowen in 2006 and already has
many branches throughout Ireland. It also recently
received the backing of Garda sergeants and
inspectors for its demands.
PARC wants the Republic to follow the lead of the
North where it is PSNI policy that all drivers
involved in accidents are required to submit to a
preliminary test either at the scene or later in
hospital.
The group is also calling for greater enforcement of
road traffic laws and an increase in the number of
officers assigned to the Garda Traffic Corps.
