Night-time transport demand for Inishowen 02.05.07

The Government has been asked to extend the pilot rural transport scheme to Inishowen.
Despite its rural geography, the peninsula was not included in the €500,000 funding allocated this week for a new night-time rural transport programme at a number of rural locations around Ireland.
A total of €49,000 was allocated to provide the service in west Donegal.
But Fianna Fail candidate and sitting T.D., Deputy Cecilia Keaveney insisted yesterday that Inishowen needed to be included.
"I have been putting out calls through the local media for some time asking for existing and potential providers to consider running a rural transport scheme in Inishowen," she said.
"I am pleased that a few people have come forward to me to express their interest in developing a scheme for Inishowen both daytime, through support from the Department of Transport and evening time though support from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs."
She said she has contacted the relevant departments to lobby for Inishowen's inclusion.
"As pilot projects are currently being delivered, I have contacted my party colleagues, Minister Martin Cullen and Minister Eamon O Cuiv to ask that they give special consideration to Inishowen due to its rural geography," she said.
