NW radiotherapy up again for talks 22.11.07

A PROPOSED cross-border radiotherapy centre for the North West at Altnagelvin Hospital will be discussed again next week by the island's two health ministers.
That's according to Senator Brian O'Domhnaill who quizzed Health Minister Mary Harney in the Seanad about progress on the centre.
“Minister Harney told me that she is due to meet with Minister McGimpsey next week in the North South Ministerial Council," said Senator O'Domhnaill.
“She told me that a Centre of Excellence was established by the Northern authorities in Belfast ten years ago and that it is their intention to locate another centre in the western side of the North as a satellite of Belfast.
“Minister Harney has offered to work with the Northern authorities on the capital cost for such a centre or in procuring services from each other.”
The Senator said Ms. Harney assured him that she wanted to see that happen "as quickly as possible".
He said she acknowledged that real issues of peripherality arose in the case of Donegal.
