Top US artist chooses Inishowen 07.09.07

A LEADING Boston artist has chosen Inishowen as the location for one of his international art retreats. Michael Dowling of the Medicine Wheel Project has brought eight professional American artists to the peninsula for two-weeks to take part in his first ever Irish retreat. Medicine Wheel views art as a route to healing and engages in a variety of public art and educational projects.
	During their visit, the group will stay in Moville and will enlist the help of local writer Martin Lynch to guide them on their field trips and explain the history of the surrounding landscape. Transportation has been arranged to bring them to several locations during their visit including Grianan an Aileach, the Inishowen 100's
countryside and coastline as well as Derry. InishowenNews.com caught up with the artists last night as they enjoyed dinner in their rented lodge. The retreat leader said he chose Donegal this time for a number of reasons. "Ireland is another one of those magical places - it's a great inspiration for anyone who comes here," Michael explained.

"We took a long walk down to Greencastle today and the group were delighted with the scenery and the light - the light is of great quality here," he explained. During the painting retreat, the days will be a balance between individual creative time, group conversations and discretionary
time for additional work, relaxation or socialising. Dinners will be cooked and shared by the group but evenings will also be kept open for eating out and experiencing what Inishowen has to offer. Leading the artist retreats has become a natural extension of Michael Dowling’s work as a visionary artist and educator who has inspired and guided communities and artists, of all ages, for more than thirty years.
