Enrolment soon for journalism course 07.09.07

AN accredited journalism course will be delivered on a part-time basis this Autumn at the Verbal Arts Centre in Derry.
Students will be registered with the North West Regional College but classes will take place in the centre, located on the city walls at Bishop Street.
Verbal Arts Centre executive director James Kerr said the centre was delighted to offer the course for a second year running.
"It proved very successful last year, with many of the students progressing to higher media courses at HND and NVQ level.
"Others have gone directly into employment in the journalism sector. The qualification fits very well with our remit to promote literacy through the written and spoken word.”
Course lecturer Claire McDermott said the course was ideal for people looking for hands-on experience in both print and broadcast journalism.
"Many of the modules are vocational, for example audio editing techniques, and give students valuable practical experience," she said.
"It’s a great opportunity for them to build their confidence in a supportive learning environment. Students can achieve real progress, acquire new skills and explore new career options.”
The course to be delivered is the NOCN Level Three in Journalism and Radio Broadcast. Enrolment night will take place at the Verbal Arts Centre on Monday, September 17th, between 7pm and 8:30pm.
