scene
16.10.07
A WOMAN who died in
Monday's crash near Gleneely has been named locally
as Becky McEvoy (nee Carey). |
 |
Mrs. McEvoy had only
moved back to her native Greencastle this summer to
look after her brother. She was in her mid-60s and
has a grown-up family in England.
Local Councillor Marian McDonald who knows the Carey
family, happened upon the tragic crash scene as she
and her sister travelled back to Moville from a
visit to their mother in Carndonagh Community
Hospital.
"I was driving along and suddenly this car came |
towards us and was
flashing its lights frantically," said Cllr.
McDonald
"The driver, a man, warned us about the accident up
ahead. It had just happened and the emergency
services and the doctor from Carndonagh arrived not
long after. It was a terrible, terrible scene," she
added. |
Gardai are
investigating the fatality which happened at 2.45pm
at Claggan on the main Moville to Carndonagh road.
Mrs. McEvoy was a passenger in one of the cars.
The drivers of the vehicles, including Mrs. McEvoy's brother and a young male driver from the
Carn area, |
 |
were taken to
Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment. A
hospital spokesperson said the two men were
"comfortable and stable".
Gardai cordoned off a large stretch of the main road
and detours were put in place. Forensic officers
were at the scene until nightfall on Monday.
Diversions are still in place at the scene. |
